Best and Tasty Salisbury Steak

Best Salisbury Steak recipe ~ seared ground beef patties slathered in a rich mushroom-onion gravy. Serve over mashed potatoes for an easy, any night comfort meal. 

I woke up this morning with a nasty cold *ugh* the details of which I’ll spare you but while some people lose their appetite when they’re sick, mine actually increases for comfort food, like what can only be described as the Best Salisbury Steak. 

I must stress ~ emphatically ~ that this is not the Salisbury steak of your childhood, provided you grew up like I did. Back in the day I actually enjoyed the meals that came from those divided foil trays. Making sure my food didn’t touch was a big thing then and truth told, it still is.  This Salibury Steak is pan seared ground beef patties slathered in rich mushroom-onion gravy. 

Nothing about the Best Salisbury Steak requires ketchup like you may have doused it in as a kid because there’s already so much rich, bold flavor going on. It’s the comfort meal you didn’t know you needed.

The tip is really simple and if you’re a fan of A Gouda Life, you’ve heard it before. Sear the meat and scrape up any ‘brown bits’. I even used this tip for Easy Spicy Beef Chili and many other dishes. You can see the sear in the photo ⇑.

What is Salisbury Steak?
Maybe you’ve only had the TV dinner kind in a divided foil plate with corn and mashed potatoes and if that’s the case, you’ll be doing cartwheels when you taste the Best Salisbury Steak.

Salisbury Steak is made with just one pound of ground round and a few simple ingredients so it’s not only crazy good, budget-friendly too. If you prefer ground chuck, that’s fine too but drain any excess grease from the skillet after you sear the meat.

Salisbury Steak has been around forever – maybe your mom or grandma used to make it. It’s a dish that creates memories around your own table and helps us remember meals shared with loved ones.

  • Italian flavored breadcrumbs

Gravy:
  • olive oil

  • 2 cloves garlic
  • mushrooms
  • flour
  • beef stock
  • McCormick Au jus gravy mix
  • Dijon mustard
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • dried thyme
